Adding a YouTube video to D2L email, Discussions, etc...
Modified on: Tue, Jan 11 2022 2:20 PMYou can use a D2L Brightspace function called Insert Stuff to add YouTube videos to different areas in D2L, such as emails, discussion posts, etc...
Use the "Insert Stuff" button in any D2L area that includes a text editor.
When the "Insert Stuff" window opens, you have two options for embedding a YouTube video. Both are explained below.
Option 1 - This option is for publicly searchable YouTube videos. If you would be able to find the video by going to YouTube and searching, you should be able to use this function to easily search for and insert a YouTube video.
- Click Insert Stuff.
- Click YouTube. (See Figure 1)
- Enter a search term and click Search. (See Figure 2)
- Click on the relevant video.
- Click Next.
- Ensure the video preview looks correct and click Add.
- Add anything additional to the email, discussion post, etc. you wish and click send, post, etc.
Option 2 - This option is for videos that are not publicly searchable on YouTube and can also be used for any external content that offers the ability to embed it using an embed code.
click on YouTube in the menu at the left side. Use this window to search for your video.
- Copy embed code from external site. For YouTube this means clicking on the "share" button for the video, selecting "embed", and copying the embed code (select code & CTRL + C (CMD + C for Mac)).
- Click Insert Stuff.
- Click Enter Embed Code. (See Figure 3)
- Paste the embed code into the embed code box (CTRL + V (CMD + V for Mac)). (See Figure 4)
- Click Next.
- Ensure the video preview looks correct and click Add.
- Add anything additional to the email, discussion post, etc. you wish and click send, post, etc.
