How do I use the locker tool in D2L Brightspace?
Note: This video contains the old look of Brightspace. The functionality of the Locker tool remains the same. About Locker Use the Locker tool to upload and store files in Learning Environment. Locker enables you to upload files from your PC, or to create new HTML files. Files in your personal locker are kept private, though your institution might provide the option for you to make files public. Group locker areas allow you to collaborate on files with others. Your personal locker area is not course-specific. You can access the locker from anywhere in Learning Environment and store all of your files together. Access the Locker tool Click Locker on the navbar. You can also access the Locker tool from the Classlist or Groups tool. Group lockers Group lockers are restricted locker areas where members of a group can share files. Any group member can modify files posted in group locker areas. Group lockers have the same options as regular lockers with the following exceptions: The option to make locker files public in not available. There is an option to Email Group Members. There is a Modified By column that shows the last person to work on a file. Access group lockers Click the Locker link on your course navigation bar, then click Group Lockers. Note You can only access a group locker from the course offering it applies to. Access other users’ public locker files Click Classlist on the navbar in the appropriate course. Click View shared locker files from the context menu of the user whose shared locker files you want to view. Click the file name you want to open, or search for specify a file type in theFiles of Type drop-down list. Creating files and folders and uploading to your locker Create a folder From the My Locker page, click New Folder. Type a Folder Name. Click Save. To create a sub-folder for an existing folder, click New Folder when you're in the parent folder. Create a file On the My Locker page, click New File. Enter a File Name. In the Folder section, click Choose Destination to change or add the folder destination. Select the Make this file public to others check box if you want other users to be able to view the file. Enter a Description. In the Edit Contents field, enter the content you want to go in the file. Click Create. Note The option to make files public might not be available if your institution has not enabled it. Upload a file to your locker On the My Locker page, click Upload Files. Select the Make uploaded file(s) public to others check box if you want to allow other users to view the file. Enter a Description of the file. Click Choose Destination to select the file path location for your file. Click Browse and locate the file you want to attach. If you want to attach more than one file, click Add Another File. Click Upload. Restricted file formats For security reasons you cannot upload applications or programs to your locker. For example, files with the extension types: .asp, .bat, .config, .dll, or .exe cannot be uploaded. Managing files and folders and downloading from your locker Search for files in your locker On the My Locker page, enter your search criteria in the Search For field. If you want to conduct an advanced search, click Show Search Options. Click Search. Download files from your locker Select the check boxes beside the files you want to download. Click Download at the top of the file list. Save a copy of the zip file to your local computer or storage device. Edit a file's name, description, or status Click Edit from the context menu of the file you want to edit. Make your changes. Click Save. Edit multiple files' description Select the check boxes beside the files you want to edit. Click Edit at the top of the file list. Update the Description for files as needed. Select or clear the Public check box to change whether files are public or private. Click Save. Edit a folder's name Click Edit from the context menu beside the folder you want to edit. Update the Folder Name. Click Save. Move a file or folder Click Move from the context menu of the file or folder you want to move. Click the name of the target folder. Click Move. Delete a file or folder Do one of the following: Click Delete from the context menu of the file or folder you want to delete. Select the check boxes beside the files or folders you want to delete and click Delete at the top of the file list. Important Deleting a folder also deletes all of the files within it.

How do I reset my password?
To reset all of your passwords that use your NetID and NetID@gfcmsu.edu, please follow these steps: Go to https://password.gfcmsu.edu. Click the blue "Go to Password Portal" button. Click the "Go to Reset Tool" button. Enter your NetID and click "Continue". Select one of the 2-4 authentication options shown. If you chose: Authenticate with Challenge Questions - Choosing this option will prompt you to answer a few of the challenge questions you created when you created your profile. Authenticate with E-Mail - Will ask you to click a button to send a code to your email address that you will then enter on the page. Authenticate with Text - Will ask you to click a button to send a code to your phone via text message that you will then enter on the page. Authenticate with DUO - If you have installed and configured the DUO authenticator app, you can select this option which will have you click a button that will prompt you to press a button on your phone within the DUO app to authenticate. Enter your new password, following the password rules listed on the page. Enter the password in both the password and confirm password boxes. Click the "Reset" button. You will see 2 or more lines on the page that are processing the password update. The two that are important are the GFCMSU and the Enterprise LDAP lines. You could see lines for other MSU schools you attended previously, which may show a failure message, that is expected behavior. Once you see GFCMSU - Success and Enterprise LDAP Success, your password has been reset and you will use this new password on any sites where your username is either your NetID or your NetID@gfcmsu.edu. Please note: You must wait at least 3 minutes before attempting to login to your Microsoft Office or Student Email accounts, as it takes 3 minutes for the password to sync to Microsoft for those services. Please note: If you have not registered for classes yet AND/OR it is more than 7 weeks from the start of the term you are registering for, you will not be able to login to D2L Brightspace or Microsoft Office/Student Email. Those accounts are created closer to the start of the term.

I need access to the advising room for my program in D2L but it's not there. How do I add it?
If you do not have access to your program's online advising room in D2L you will need to contact your program advisor to have it added. It will show up under your list of courses in D2L once it has been added.

Why is the course I added today not showing up in D2L Brightspace?
All course changes made by admissions or by students enrolling in courses via Banner Web/MyInfo take up to 24 hours to process and carry over into D2L. If you are still not seeing the course the next day, please login to Banner Web/MyInfo and view your current enrollments to make sure you are showing as enrolled in the course. If you are showing as enrolled in Banner but your course is not showing in D2L contact the eLearning office so they can research the problem.

Why is the course I dropped today still showing up in D2L Brightspace?
All course changes made by admissions or by students via Banner Web/MyInfo take up to 24 hours to process and carry over into D2L. If you are still seeing the course the next day, please login to Banner Web/MyInfo to make sure you are no longer showing as enrolled in the course. If Banner no longer shows you as enrolled in the course but you are still seeing it in D2L please contact the eLearning office so they can research the issue.

Adding a YouTube video to D2L email, Discussions, etc...
You can use a D2L Brightspace function called Insert Stuff to add YouTube videos to different areas in D2L, such as emails, discussion posts, etc... Use the "Insert Stuff" button in any D2L area that includes a text editor. When the "Insert Stuff" window opens, you have two options for embedding a YouTube video. Both are explained below. Option 1 - This option is for publicly searchable YouTube videos. If you would be able to find the video by going to YouTube and searching, you should be able to use this function to easily search for and insert a YouTube video. Click Insert Stuff. Click YouTube. (See Figure 1) Enter a search term and click Search. (See Figure 2) Click on the relevant video. Click Next. Ensure the video preview looks correct and click Add. Add anything additional to the email, discussion post, etc. you wish and click send, post, etc. Figure 1: Select YouTube from Insert Stuff options Figure 2: Search for and select YouTube video to embed Option 2 - This option is for videos that are not publicly searchable on YouTube and can also be used for any external content that offers the ability to embed it using an embed code. click on YouTube in the menu at the left side. Use this window to search for your video. Copy embed code from external site. For YouTube this means clicking on the "share" button for the video, selecting "embed", and copying the embed code (select code & CTRL + C (CMD + C for Mac)). Click Insert Stuff. Click Enter Embed Code. (See Figure 3) Paste the embed code into the embed code box (CTRL + V (CMD + V for Mac)). (See Figure 4) Click Next. Ensure the video preview looks correct and click Add. How do I view feedback after taking an exam or quiz in D2L?
Some instructors allow students to view feedback after they take an exam or quiz in D2L. If your instructor provides quiz feedback, you will need to follow these steps to view your quiz attempts. Login to D2L and navigate to your course. Click on “Toolbox” and “Quizzes”. Click on the small arrow to the right of the quiz you would like to view and then click on “Submissions”. On the page that opens, click on “Attempt 1” (If your instructor allows multiple attempts at quizzes or exams, click on the attempt you wish to view). You should now be viewing your quiz attempt with any feedback left by the instructor. Please note: If you get to step 4 and it states that you must view your quiz results/feedback using Respondus Lockdown Browser, you will need to click on the button to launch Lockdown Browser, just as you did to take the quiz or exam.

How do I forward my D2L Brightspace email to another email account?
In some cases students may find it helpful to have their D2L Brightspace email forwarded to another email account. The instructions below will help you to setup email forwarding. Go to the email tool in D2L either by clicking on the mail icon and then on “Go to email” from the mini-bar, or by clicking on “Communications” and then on “Email” from within a course. Look for and click on the “Settings” button near the top right corner of the email area. In the page that opens, scroll to the bottom and look for “Forwarding Options”. Place a checkmark in the box that reads, “Forward incoming messages to an alternate email account”. Enter the email address you would like email forwarded to in the “Email Address” field. Select from one of the three options below. They are “Forward and delete from the inbox folder”, “Forward and mark unread in the inbox folder”, and “Forward and mark read in the inbox folder”. Note: the eLearning Department recommends setting this option to “Forward and mark read in the inbox folder”. Click on the “Save” button and you’re done!

How2 Navigate Through Content in Brightspace by D2L
By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to... Recognize the various says you can navigate through content in D2L. 1. Use the breadcrumb trail at the top of the page. As you navigate through pages, you can use each previously visited page as a hyperlink back to that specific page. 2. Use the iteration (arrow) buttons. These iteration buttons can be found at the top and the bottom of each content page. 3. Use the Table of Contents side panel. The Table of Contents side panel is collapsed by default. You must click it with your mouse in order to view it. It is located on the left hand side of the page. 4. Return to the "Content" page. If you go back to content, you will need to find the next page in the Module that you need to navigate to.
