What is ReadSpeaker and docReader?
ReadSpeaker reads HTML content aloud by using a "Listen" button in the upper left-hand corner right on the HTML page. You can learn more about ReadSpeaker by visiting https://www.readspeaker.com/education/library/ and scrolling down to the Brightspace section of the page. DocReader reads aloud content made in various word processing tools. It is available by clicking the "Open with docReader" button on the bottom of the content item.

When I look at a PowerPoint in D2L Brightspace, it looks strange. What could be wrong?
There is a button when viewing Content items in Brightspace that says "View as Text". If it was accidentally clicked, it will only show the PowerPoint as a text, and will not show the images at all. You will see the button displaying as "View as Page" if it has been clicked. See the screenshot below.

Viewing Rubrics Used For Grading Discussions
When an instructor uses rubrics to grade discussion posts, there is a specific process you, the student, must use to view those rubrics. Go to Class Progress (located by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the page). Click Discussions in the left navigation menu. Click the Forum name the Discussion is listed under. Scroll down to find the particular discussion board. Click the arrow next to "Details" for that board. Click the rubric link.

Viewing Video Assignment Feedback
When you submit a video assignment for a course, the instructor will grade the assignment and provide feedback to the student on the work that was submitted. Here are the steps necessary for viewing video assignment feedback. From within the course, click on Toolbox > Video Assignments. Click on the Assignment Name you wish to view feedback for. Click on the tab labeled "Evaluation". It's located near the top of the page. Look for the feedback on the right side of the page. You will see something next to either Text Feedback or Video Feedback. Click on the link that appears there. Click on the small video icon. The video should open and start to play immediately.

How do I use the Video Assignments tool in Brightspace?
Completing an Individual Project is a great way to practice presentations and demonstrate your skills. The steps below outline how to complete this type of assignment. Access the Video Assignment by navigating to your course in Brightspace and locating the link to the assignment in Content. Once you click on the assignment you will be presented with a screen similar to this one. Click on ADD to see additional options. Click on VIDEO to view additional options for recording or uploading video. Clicking on Record Video gives you the following window. Click "Record" when you are ready to begin recording your video. When you are finished recording, click the "Stop" button and then click on the "Save" icon, located near the bottom right corner. After clicking "save" you will see this screen. Processing time depends on the length of the video. Once the video is processed, you will see a screen that looks like this. Click on the "star" icon to mark the video ready for submission. When you are ready to submit your video, click on the blue "Submit" button. You will be asked if you are sure you want to submit this assignment. Click "Yes" to submit. Once the video assignment is submitted you will see a screen similar to this one. If you have recorded your video on a different device or outside of this web interface, click on "Upload Video" to be presented with the following screen. Click on the words "Drop video or click here" to located your video on the computer and upload it. Once the video is uploaded it will take time to process. When the video is done processing you will need to click on the "star' icon to mark it ready for submission. Click on "Submit" when you are ready to submit your assignment. You will be asked if you are sure you want to submit the assignment. Click "Yes". Once your assignment is submitted you will see a screen similar to this. Preparing Presentation Slides Most students create their presentations in either PowerPoint or Keynote. Unfortunately, PowerPoint and Keynote presentation files cannot be uploaded directly into video assignments. Below are the instructions for preparing both PowerPoint and Keynote presentation slide decks for uploading into video assignments. PowerPoint Open your presentation in PowerPoint. Click File > Export. Choose the location where you want to save your files, and then in the File Format box, click the option that says, "JPEG". Keynote Open your presentation in Keynote. Click File > Export To > Images... Make sure the dot for "Slides" is set to "All". Make sure "Format" is set to JPEG. Click Next... Choose the location where you want to save your files, and then click the "Export"button.

Video Assignments - Reducing Video File Size Using Movie Maker or iMovie
If you need to reduce the file size of a video or want to record a video outside of YouSeeU, you can use Windows Movie Maker if you are using Windows or you can use iMovie if you are using a Mac. Using Movie Maker Using iMovie Using Movie Maker on Windows If your computer doesn’t already have Windows Movie Maker on it, you can download it here. After opening Movie Maker, you can choose to import a video file that you may have, or you can record a video using a webcam. If you want to import a video, it will allow you to choose a file from your computer. If you want to record a video using a webcam, it will bring up a video recorder that will allow you to record yourself. Once you have supplied Movie Maker with a video, you will be able to watch your video to make sure it is how you want it before you export your video. To export your video, go to File -> Save Movie -> For Email. Once you click that, it will allow you to save your video on your computer wherever you want. From here, you can now log on to YouSeeU and upload this video. Using iMovie on a Mac If your computer doesn’t have iMovie installed, it is available on the Mac App Store. To start a new project, you can click on the big plus sign, and press Movie. If you have a video you want to use, you can import it here using this import button. If you want to make a recording on your computer, you can do so in PhotoBooth. When you have made your recording, you can drag it into iMovie so it can be exported correctly. Now that your video is in iMovie, you can view it to make sure it is how you want it. When you are ready to export it, you can go to File -> Share -> File. Here you will give your file a name. Make sure that the resolution is set to 540p and the quality to Medium. When you are finished you can press Next and it will allow you to save your file. You can now log in to YouSeeU and upload this file for use.

How Do I Use Peer Review In The Video Assignments Tool?
If your instructor is using the Video Assignments tool with peer review in Brightspace, the instructions below should explain the process for completing the peer review portion of the assignment. Please see the Video Assignments tool tutorial for information on how to submit a video assignment. 1. In Brightspace, click on Content and navigate to the module that contains the link to your video assignment and click on it. 2. Since you have already submitted your video assignment, you will be presented with a screen similar to the one below. Place your mouse in the middle area of the page and scroll down to see the rest of the page content. 3. You will see a section that shows one of your peers with a drop-down menu showing your peer's names. Click on the name if you'd like to to select a different peer to review. 4. Click on the video to view it. 5. Once you have viewed the video, you will notice that "Viewed Submission" highlights blue with a checkmark, as shown below. Continue to the next step. 6. In this step you will be leaving feedback for your peer. You can do this by recording a video with your feedback or writing text feedback. Be sure to check the documentation for your assignment to ensure that you are using the correct method, if one has been specified by the instructor. a. To record video feedback, click on the small "camera" icon, located to the left of the word "Comment...". This will open a video recording window similar to what you probably used to record your video assignment. Click "Record" to begin recording. Click "Stop Recording" when finished. Click the "save" icon in the bottom right corner of the video recording window to save and submit your video feedback. b. To write text feedback, click on the word "Comment..." and begin typing your feedback. Once you have finished writing your feedback, click on the "submit" button to the right of the "Comment..." field. The submit button looks like a paper airplane. 7. Click on the stars to rate your peer's video. If you accidentally click on the wrong star, you can change your entry by clicking on another one to change your rating. You should also notice on this screen that it shows how many of your peers you have reviewed for this assignment. If the instructor has required you to review 2 peers, this bar will help you to keep track of your progress with the peer review process. Click on the peer's name to select a different peer. 8. Scrolling down below the Peer Review area will reveal your video assignment submission. You can self evaluate your submission, if desired or required. You can also view your submission's rating and the feedback left for you by your peers.

How to self-enroll in a non-credit course in Brightspace
From the navbar, click Self-Registration Courses. From the Self-Registration (Discover) homepage, do one of the following: Browse for the course by sections. In the search bar, enter terms that match the course title and description. If you don't find what you're looking for, try using a different search term or click Browse All to view all courses. Tip: From the search results, click Sort and choose a category to sort your search results. Available categories include: Most Relevant (default), Updated, New, and Already Enrolled. Select the course you want to enroll in. From the course details page, click Enroll in Course.
